Since the advent of remote-monitoring technology as a clinical tool, HCA has recognized the value and many benefits of home telehealth.

What is Home Telehealth?

Home telehealth allows patients to receive daily monitoring of vital signs and/or video visits from a registered nurse or therapist in their home using standard phone lines or the Internet. As a supplement to routine home health visits, home telehealth saves agency resources and improves health outcomes.

HCA's Manual

HCA has also long recognized that the decision to implement this exciting new technology at the provider level often involves significant hurdles: the expense of procuring and maintaining telehealth equipment, patient wariness about the new technology, and the cultural element of clinical staff who are accustomed to providing care through a more personal means of patient contact.

The learning curve can be daunting, to say the least. This is where HCA's Home Telehealth Manual — a resource guide unlike any other — comes into play by offering a practical approach for providers interested in utilizing this powerful technology. The guide is a synthesis between the New York home care provider community's tremendous body of knowledge about telehealth and HCA's own insights about telehealth policy.

The 300-plus-page manual includes:

  • A CD packed with valuable resource documents
  • Program implementation plans
  • Sample forms and procedure guidelines
  • Grant-writing tips
  • And much, much more

With a nationwide shortage of nursing professionals and the skyrocketing cost of health care overall, telehealth simply makes sense on a global level. Our hope is that when it comes to the intricacies of implementing a telehealth program, this manual will help make sense of telehealth technology on a practical level, too.
